Since 2001, The Braided Rug Company have been selling these American hand-crafted braided rugs, manufactured in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.  These American rugs are highly durable, reversable, machine washable and made of the softest premium yarns, using a process that has hardly changed since 1917.  You will buy one and have it in your home, like an old friend, for the rest of your lifetime, making this a truly sustainable product.

Our American braided rugs are available in 10 colourways and are a mix of wool, nylon, and polyester.  They are available in 8 standard sizes, either in oval or round.  We can also custom make larger sizes.  Due to the fact they can go in the washing machine, they are suitable for every room in the house, including the bathroom and a muddy hallway.

Early American settlers pioneered the braided style by making rugs out of strips of cloth from old blankets, coats and canvas, as a way of keeping warm.  They were both colourful and could be made without need for a machine.  The multicolour theme carries through to today and adds a vintage, cosy feel to a modern product.

They are the definition of true craftsmanship, the braids are all dyed individually, meaning each rug is unique. Unlike other makers of braided products, who use a large filler wrapped in yarn to create their braids, these rugs comprise more than 80% surface yarns, with just a small filler inside. This makes these rugs far more durable and hardwearing; you are never going to have the problem where rugs become patchy as the filler begins to show through.

Our original American braided rugs that we have in our home are nearly 30 years old and still going strong, there is nothing throw-away about them, they will add colour and comfort to your home for years.

Prices start at £79 for a 2’ x 3’ oval rug.

The Braided Rug Company is an ecommerce platform based on the West coast of Wales.  We originally started selling our American braided rugs over 20 years ago in our shop in Shrewsbury, which then grew into a small, mail-order business.  Their popularity allowed us to continue to grow, they have a very loyal following and bring a piece of traditional American warmth to your home.
