A new season brings new ideas and new inspiration for creating fresh looks within the home. Garden Trading shares its thoughts for capturing the life and colour of spring to create a beautiful tablescape, just in time for Easter.
LOOSE LAYERS

Spring holds a delightfully unpolished wonder due to its newness and beginnings. Think shoots pushing up through the earth. Harness the natural beauty by taking different silhouettes in the same materials and layering them upon each other in a single place setting to recreate spring’s perfectly imperfect look.

NEW NEUTRALS

Now is the perfect time to deviate from the expected greys and whites to capture the pastel colours of the season. Stick to different hues of the same colour family to ensure you complement rather than clash your pieces.

MIX-MATCHED MATERIALS

Add softness with an array of different finishes. Matt ceramic jugs and tumblers with fluted edges. Smooth, shiny ceramic plates. Then complete with a soft, linen napkin for each guest.

FLORAL FINISH

Simple, spring flowers in delicate tones add height and interest to the table. Recycled glass vases or small potted plants in planters bring the natural aesthetic to the table.

BURNING BRIGHTLY

For outdoor tables, small scented candles with gentle fragrances add to the ambience of a spring table, whilst indoors stick to the unscented variety in candlesticks for pretty candlelight without overpowering scent.

MAKING A START ON A SPRINGTIME GARDEN

Following some simple maintenance steps in the garden now means being richly rewarded with an outdoor living space, to be enjoyed all spring and summer long.

Here are Garden Trading’s springtime steps:

TAKE TIME TO TIDY

Rake up dead leaves, recycle pots cracked and broken in bad weather and remove plants that didn’t manage to see it through the winter months.

SOW THE SEEDS

Use cold frames and greenhouses to begin growing in seedling trays. These fledgling seedlings can then be transferred into the ground or larger planters once better weather arrives and they are ready to survive outdoors.

TAKE GOOD CARE

Use plant supports, arches and trellises where needed to help protect your plants. Do this early enough that plants haven’t got too big and therefore become broken when staked.

STAY ON TOP

Don’t let weeding get away from you. Keep a watchful eye, removing weeds regularly and deadheading early bloomers.

STORE IT ALL

Create storage solutions for all garden toys, tools and watering cans to avoid things becoming messy. Then it’s time to survey what space you have available. Make a plan for furniture, lighting and replenishing flowerbeds and planters that will help make the most of the new season.
